Fence quoting software: the two kinds, and which one you need

Search for “fence quoting software” and you get two very different things mixed together: tools your team uses to build an estimate after a site visit, and tools homeowners use on your website to get a price before you've spent a minute on them. They solve different problems. Most fence companies need one; busy ones end up with both. Here's how to tell which problem you have.

Kind 1: estimating and job-management suites

You (or a rep) measure the property, then build the estimate in the software: material takeoff, labor, markups, a proposal the customer signs, sometimes scheduling, invoicing, and crew tracking on top. Strong at running the back office. The catch: nothing happens until you've driven out, so they don't reduce the number of wasted trips, they make the trips you take more organized.

Kind 2: instant-quote widgets on your website

The homeowner types their address, draws the fence on a satellite map, picks material and height, and sees a price built from your rates. You get a lead with the footage already measured and the price already seen. This is the kind that cuts site visits to people who ghost or go cheaper, because the tire-kickers filter themselves out. The catch: it's a front door, not a back office. Most widgets (FenceFlow included, today) don't do invoicing or crew scheduling.

Which one do you need?

Too many site visits that don't close

Driving 45 minutes, walking the lot, writing it up, then they ghost or went with someone cheaper. That's a front-door problem. You need an instant-quote widget.

Crews, scheduling, and invoices are chaos

Jobs are closing fine but running them is the mess. That's a back-office problem. You need a suite.

Both

Run both. They don't compete: the widget qualifies the lead and measures the job, the suite runs it once it's sold. The widget feeds the suite.

What to look for in an instant-quote widget

  • Map drawing with live linear footage, so the homeowner measures their own lot
  • Prices from YOUR rate card: per material and height, gates, disposal, add-ons, tax
  • Your choice of exact price, price range, or no price (lead capture only)
  • Unfinished quotes captured as warm leads, with the step they stopped at
  • One-line embed that works on whatever your website runs on
  • Your brand on it, not the vendor's, if you want that
  • Month to month, no contract, a real trial

Where FenceFlow fits

FenceFlow is kind 2, fence only. Homeowners draw on a satellite map, the price comes from your rates (per material and height, gates, disposal, add-ons, bulk discounts, tax), you choose exact, range, or hidden, and unfinished quotes land as warm leads. $129/month, or $229/month white-labeled. No CRM, invoicing, or third-party integrations yet; if you live in JobNimbus today, read the honest comparison with mySalesman first. For the widget itself, see the fence quote widget page, or watch the math it does in the free fence cost calculator.

Common questions

What is fence quoting software?
Software that turns a fence job's details (footage, material, height, gates, removal) into a price. It comes in two kinds: estimating suites your team uses after a site visit, and instant-quote widgets homeowners use on your website before you ever drive out.
Is fence quoting software the same as fence estimating software?
People use the words interchangeably. In practice 'estimating' usually means the back-office kind (takeoffs, material lists, proposals) and 'quoting' or 'instant quote' usually means the customer-facing kind. Ask which side of the site visit the tool works on.
Do instant quotes scare homeowners off?
The opposite, in our experience. A homeowner who drew their fence, picked a material, and saw a price has already committed mentally to the investment. They're easier to close, and nobody gets surprised at the kitchen table. The ones who were never going to buy drop out before they reach you, which is the point.
How accurate can a quote from a map be?
The footage is measured off satellite imagery and is usually within a few percent; the price is your own rate card applied to it. What a map can't see is slope, rock, buried lines, or access, so many companies show a range and confirm on site. That's still a qualified buyer who knows the ballpark.
Do I still need a site visit?
For most installs, yes, but now you're visiting buyers who have seen your price and drawn their own fence, not everyone who filled in a contact form. That's where the saved hours come from.
How long does it take to set up an instant-quote widget?
FenceFlow: about 15 minutes to enter pricing, branding, and service area, then one line of code on your website. Send us your price list and we load it for you.
